persephone

Thursday, May 12

Billed as a “modern spoken opera,” Persephone in the Late Anthropocene is also bound to defy your expectations. Maine composer Denis Nye and writer/librettist Megan Grumbling collaborated to create the production, directed by Tess Van Horn, which melds dance, poetry and drama with Nye’s post-Romantic chamber music and an art installation by Jenna Crowder. It premieres tonight at SPACE Gallery (538 Congress St., Portland) at 7:30 p.m., and continues through May 22. Tix: $10 (all ages). 828-5600. space538.org.
