CLASH OF THE TINYS

Round 2: Foam Castles vs. Custardpaws & Mr. Freezy

Welcome back to Clash of the Tinys, where songs by local musical acts battle for your vote. Here’s how it works. Every Friday, The Bollard selects and posts two songs by Maine musicians or bands. You have a week to vote for your favorite using the Polldaddy thingy below. Winning songs will go head to head in a series of sudden-death playoffs next year, until we’re down to just two. Those two acts will face off live on stage, and then we’ll start another series of Clashes.

Last week, Spencer Albee’s cover of “Dear Prudence” bested Eggbot’s cover of “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” It wasn’t close.

For this round, two danceable indie-rock tracks do battle. “Horticulture Friends,” by Foam Castles, is from the band’s trippy 2011 EP Come Over to My House, which is available for free download at their Bandcamp site (an earlier, slightly different version appears on the Treble, Treble Vol 2 compilation). Their challenger is the dynamic duo of Custardpaws & Mr. Freezy, (a.k.a Blair Wells and Jeff Badger), with “We Conquer.” It’s from their 2011 full-length, The Buffalo, which can be heard in its entirely (and purchased) at their Bandcamp site.

Will Foam Castles’ friends put them over the top, or will Custardpaws & Mr. Freezy really conquer? Tune in next week for the results…
