The Maine Luthiers Exhibition & Music Showcase kicks off today in Hallowell, featuring demos, exhibits, talks and, of course, tunes by an eclectic array of Maine acts, including The Awesome, Boogie Mob, the Katie Matzell Trio, Denny Breau and more. Speaking of guitars, double-neck virtuoso Ian Ethan Case brings his Portals project to Blue (650 Congress St., Portland), jamming compositions from his world-music album Earth Suite with a “Photon Symphony” of musicians projected on screens at 8 p.m. Donations encouraged (all ages). 774-4111. portcityblue.com.
