Friday, June 3

Several noteworthy art happenings take place this First Friday in Portland. In Lincoln Park (corner of Congress and Franklin streets), a temporary sculptural installation by Judith Hoffman will be unveiled at 5 p.m. Titled The American Dream, the 14-foot-tall sculpture is an unsettling representation of instability in this age of gross inequality. At Acoustic Artisans (594 Congress St.), there’s a group show of photographs from Portland’s past and present, titled The City; and down the block at The Bearded Lady’s Jewel Box (644 Congress St.), The Fragrant Jewel: A Show of Vinaigrettes presents ornamental scent bottles and boxes by artists of the Metals Collective. Continues through July. 747-5384. thebeardedladysjewelbox.com.
