Indie-rock fans around here likely know Rhys Chatham as the avant-garde no-wave/post-punk composer of the instrumental that WMPG’s David Pence played for years while he hipped us to cool upcoming shows. Well, one of those cool shows is finally Chatham himself, who plays his first gig in Maine at SPACE Gallery (538 Congress St., Portland), initially in a solo setting, then with a trio, starting at 8:30 p.m. Tix: $15-$20 (all ages). space538.org. And up the street at One Longfellow Square (181 State St.), local bluegrass favorites Tricky Britches pick and grin in celebration of the release of their new CD of original songs, with Americana troubadour Putnam Smith opening at 8 p.m. Tix: $15 (all ages). 761-1751. onelongfellowsquare.com.
