The Portland Museum of Art (7 Congress Square) is presenting Duncan Hewitt: Turning Strange, the first major solo exhibition by the Maine sculptor and longtime USM professor. Hewitt hews the forms of everyday objects — ice skates, lollipops, curtains billowing in a window — from wood and paints them to evoke memories and a sense of wonder. The exhibit opened in late January and continues through early September. Admission is free tonight from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. 775-6148. portlandmuseum.org.
