Former journalist Gregory Flemming will be discussing his book At the Point of a Cutlass: The Pirate Capture, Bold Escape, and Lonely Exile of Philip Ashton at Maine Historical Society (489 Congress St., Portland), at noon. Based on a manuscript written in 1725, it tells the tale of a 19-year-old fisherman who managed to escape his pirate captors and survive being stranded on a Caribbean island.
