Well over a decade after a bunch of Maine College of Art students formed the psychedelic indie-rock group that came to be known as Phantom Buffalo, its members are having their first group art show. The Search for “Tropical Moon”collects album art and assorted paintings, drawings and sculpture, plus video games, by Phantom Buffalonians. The opening tonight at Mayo Street Arts (10 Mayo St., Portland) starts at 5 p.m. and includes an hour-long acoustic set by the band at 7 p.m. Free. 879-4629. mayostreetarts.org. From there, head up to Empire (575 Congress St., Portland) for what’s being billed as “the most overkill event of the century” — an album release by metal instrumentalists Lord Earth, featuring a “boat load” of musical guests, copious visuals courtesy of DJ/VJ The Psychologist, and pints of Space Peyote IPA (a collab between the band and local brewers Bissell Brothers).
