Providence indie-folk band The Low Anthem consistently defies expectations with its smart songwriting and unconventional instrumentation (e.g., clarinet, trumpet, double bass, Pianet). Clarinetist and vocalist Jocie Adams has left the band, but founders Ben Knox Miller and Jeff Prystowsky are still playing, and among the three new members is “space harpist” Bryan Minto. They’re at The Oak and the Ax (140 Main St., Biddeford) with Death Vessel and Last Good Tooth opening at 8 p.m. Tix: $10-$12 (all ages). 828-5600. theoakandtheax.com.
