The 34th annual La Kermesse Franco-Americaine Festival kicks off with a block party tonight at Mechanics Park in downtown Biddeford, featuring music and fireworks after dusk, and continues all weekend at St. Louis Field (corner of Prospect and West streets), where there’ll be lots of family-friendly activities and attractions, including a “pro” wrestling show. Full schedule at lakermessefestival.com. And tonight at SPACE Gallery (538 Congress St., Portland), cellist Paul de Jong, one half of the critically sainted indie-pop act The Books, plays his singularly strange and wonderful songs with local electro act Glass Fingers and Portland gizmo-rock phenom Computer at Sea opening at 8:30 p.m. Tix: $8-$10 (all ages). 828-5600. space538.org.
