Russian director Aleksei German’s final film, a surreal adaptation of Arkady and Boris Strugatsky’s sci-fi novel Hard to Be a God, follows an Earth scientist to the planet Arkanar, where he’s regarded as a deity by a populace experiencing its own version of the Dark Ages.
