Friday-Sunday, June 6-8

The Old Port Festival has ballooned from a one-day affair to an entire weekend of events in downtown Portland. It kicks off during the First Friday Art Walk, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., when parts of Congress Street will be closed to accommodate numerous circus acts and street performers. On Saturday, there’ll be a scavenger hunt starting at Key Bank’s Monument Square location at 11 a.m., walking tours of the waterfront from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and more circus freakyness. The Festival proper still takes place on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with live local music, kids’ activities, arts and crafts and enough fried dough to float a tanker. This year there’ll also be a 90-foot-tall gondola wheel, dubbed the Casco Bay Eye, in the parking lot outside DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant spinning all weekend long.
