The Hold Steady remarkably manage to pack a short story’s worth of frontman Craig Finn’s literate lyrics into rock songs without sacrificing the music’s propulsive punch. The Brooklyn band is touring in support of its new album, Teeth Dreams, and stops at Asylum (121 Center St., Portland) for a 9 p.m. show with local opener Worried Well.
