“The Transfiguration, Assumption, and Apotheosis of Luxury, High-End Consumables,” by Darrell Taylor.

Thursday, May 19

There’s eye-catching and thought-provoking art on the walls at Addison Woolley Gallery (132 Washington Ave., Portland) this month. The large photocollage murals of Darrell Taylor’s Surreallegories: Three from 2010, skewer consumerism and other modern American sins in grand, humorous fashion. And in Ephemeral Nature, Fran Vita-Taylor re-interprets the words of the Roman emperor/philosopher Marcus Aurelius in fascinating ways. The show opened May 6 and continues through May 28. The gallery is open Wed.-Sat. from noon-5 p.m. 450-8499.
