The artists have finally taken over the streets of Portland! This First Friday, Congress Street will be closed from Brown to State streets, and at the corner of Congress and Spring, the Circus Conservatory of America is presenting a free performance titled “Circus in the Streets,” featuring Conservatory acrobats and local performers, at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. At 8 p.m., the 19-piece horn force The Fogcutters presents the third edition of their Big Band Syndrome series of collaborations at the State Theatre (609 Congress St.), featuring guests including rapper Syn the Shaman (from Trails), chanteuses Dilly Dilly, Aly Spaltro (a.k.a. Lady Lamb the Beekeeper) and Sara Hallie Richardson, and fellow jazz travelers Jaw Gems. Tix: $15-$20 ($10 students). 956-6000. statetheatreportland.com.
